What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractors diagnose, treat and prevent disorders of joints and muscles, including the spine, and the affects these may have on the nervous system and function of the body. Chiropractic is often thought of as the treatment for ‘bad backs’ but it is concerned with the whole body - from head to toe.
Problems can start when certain events of repeated activities cause joints to lose their normal alignment and function. Interruption or malfunction in areas of your body/nervous system can lead to pain and ill health.
What is the difference between Chiropractic and Osteopathy?
Classically the difference is that chiropractic theory is based on the nervous system and osteopathy is based on the circulatory system. These are however interdependent. Chiropractors are trained to take x-rays but both can read them. There is often as much difference within each profession as there is between. For patients it is a case of finding a practitioner who suits your needs and works for you.
I, as a chiropractor, am delighted to be working along side osteopaths as we are all working towards the same goal (the well being of the patient) and just have some differences in our approach to getting there.
